Written by Bedfordshire Chamber of Commerce | 04 Dec 2018

At Wyboston Lakes Resort, work is almost complete on the first phase of a total transformation of the upscale conference and events venue that will now be known as The Woodlands Event Centre.

£3m plus has been invested in creating a main conference room catering for up to 450 delegates, which has been designed to meet current and emerging trends and equipped with the latest Audio Visual technology. Inspirational meeting areas designed with creative flair, movable walls to expand training room capacities and a total redesign and redecoration of breakout and bar areas are just some of the cutting-edge schemes being implemented to meet the needs of the latest and future generations of conference delegates.

The final phase will see the creation of a Mediterranean inspired restaurant and additional courtyard and terrace areas to offer outstanding dining options all year round.

Managing Director, Steve Jones says “This complete refurbishment and reorganisation will equip the venue to compete in the coming years and expand upon the already high levels of customer satisfaction that Wyboston Lakes Resort has become known for. All 120 bedrooms and bathrooms have now been upgraded with modern wet rooms installed. Our principal meeting room, The Rosewood Suite, has been expanded in size by over 60% to almost 400sqm and a new sleek reception has been created with both Group and Self Check in stations provided.
Jones continues, “As well as the physical works we are investing heavily in the overall offering with a new range of creative food and beverage outlets being launched and we will continue our focus on high end AV and unparalleled service and hospitality.”

As part of a continuing commitment to provide contemporary food and beverage for delegates, Wyboston Lakes Resort has also signed a multi-year agreement with high street retailer Paddy & Scott’s to provide coffee, machinery and branding across its spa, restaurants, events spaces and bedrooms, including The Woodlands Event Centre.

An initial capital investment of £150k in the fuelling station, machines and other fixtures and fittings is being financed by Wyboston Lakes Resort, ensuring delegates will be fully energised throughout the day. In addition to serving high street quality coffee, the fuelling station at The Woodlands Event Centre will also offer a wide range of drinks and snacks.
IT and AV technology
Well in excess of half a million pounds is being spent to update IT and audio-visual presentation technology in the Rosewood Suite. The suite, which will seat up to 450 theatre style, will also feature customisable lighting, giving event organisers the ability to quickly set and adjust levels to suit the demands of the event.

The Yew technology theatre is a tiered theatre style room where meeting organisers will be able to increase engagement, collaboration and creativity among participants.
Smart Kapp-Digital Flip Charts will be available for use in training rooms, which will enable attendees to share content remotely with colleagues anywhere in the world when they write, draw and erase ideas on the capture board.
1.3Gb of high-speed internet is offered across the site and in all facilities, ensuring delegates receive bandwidth, with no passwords or limitations, completely free.

Self-check-in desks for bedrooms are being added in addition to the venue’s well-staffed team of lobby hosts ensuring the check in process is both speedy and the guests’ data is kept secure. Digital signage both externally and internally will aid guests in getting to their meeting on time.

Jones concludes “Our research into trends in dedicated conference and events venues has taken us across several continents and this investment is aimed to ensure we remain the venue of choice for the many blue-chip companies we work with. This will relaunch the Centre as a bright modern contemporary venue fit for the next decade.”

Wyboston Lakes Resort, located on 380 acres between Cambridge and Milton Keynes, is the UK’s largest privately-owned single site conference and leisure venue. This investment will bring the total investment in the Resort in the last few years to over £10m and is part of a long term continuing reinvestment strategy.
