“We strongly believe HR should add value to the business and help it grow.” When you hear a statement like that, you know the conversation will be about more than job specs, contracts, and pay grades, and at Haynes-based Resourceful People Group (RPG), they take HR far beyond this.
We caught up with Director Steve Botterill recently to learn more about how the company came into being, what it delivers, and how these services can benefit businesses of all sizes – particularly those in the throes of planning or executing change.
Extensive experience, licensed expertise
Steve has built the business up over the past three years, following over 25 years’ experience in global corporate HR roles.
Its watchwords – Enable, Support, Protect – are focused around the need for HR to provide much more value-add and for businesses to prepare, inspire, and value their employees through what is, these days, an unrelenting and fast-paced constant: change.
Transforming teams and individuals to get ahead of these changes, whilst keeping outcomes aligned with business strategy and objectives, is where RPG plays especially strongly – and not only because of the team’s emotional intelligence (EQ) skills.
The company is also one of only a few licensed UK practitioners of both the scientifically developed AQai adaptability (AQ) assessment and the Insights Discovery personality profiling tools (EQ).
Ultimately, Steve says, the goal of these advanced HR techniques is to provide increased self-awareness but also to create meaningful action plans for individuals and teams that will make a difference to business performance.
The businesses Resourceful People Group helps
One of the remarkable points that comes out in our interview with Steve is that RPG provides a wide range of services, including coaching and its bespoke HR Value Framework, but that its solutions aren’t targeted exclusively at either smaller or bigger players.
The company’s clients include everything from media giant News UK, to Cambridge pharma corporations, to small local SME businesses. Plus, RPG also exports its services, having won a number of international contracts, including, most recently, in Oman.
But the only qualification any business needs to become an RPG client is an acceptance of the need for transformation.
“If there’s a desire for change and you want to make a real difference. we want to work with you,” says Steve, emphasising at the same time that one of the most valuable skills his company’s solutions deliver is encouraging teams to start “unlearning” old ways.
Result: the business changes to, firstly, value its employees more, and, consequently, get the best out of its people, creating the culture it needs to drive performance.
Championing change through the Chamber
As for the business’s membership of the Chamber, Steve says: “I'm a believer in the Chamber - the reach and influence that it has, and the fact that it’s very employer-focused.”
“We were proud to be an exhibitor at the Your Business Expo that the Chamber recently sponsored, and we’re fans of the Meet the Neighbours and Connect Over Coffee events, too.”
