Local packaging firm awarded Health and Safety Seal of Excellence

Bedfordshire company Colpac has received the nationally recognised Health and Safety Seal of Excellence Award from the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF) after scoring 100% in a recent audit.

As a local employer and SME, Colpac designs and manufactures sustainable food packaging from its Flitwick based site, distributing to UK retailers and wholesalers, and exporting to over 60 countries worldwide.

Established over 85 years ago, Colpac is an award winning company, but this latest sign of excellence demonstrates the company’s continued commitment to health and safety and builds upon its ISO45001 accreditation – the international standard for health and safety at work.

To receive the BPIF Health and Safety Seal of Excellence Award, companies must achieve a minimum score of 80% from the audit with all legal requirements being verified. This includes a review of procedures and policies, safe systems of work, risk assessments, activities, and records. Colpac’s score of 100% demonstrates that the BPIF auditor was thoroughly impressed with health and safety at the manufacturing site and was delighted to award the seal of excellence.

“The award confirms our prioritisation of health and safety across all aspects of our operations. We always welcome opportunities for improvement and the BPIF review was considered a tool to further reinforce our positive safety culture. Our people are integral to this, and we are proud of what we have achieved together thus far.” Frances Dickman, Compliance and QA Manager at Colpac.

Engagement with the BPIF as a platinum member gives Colpac access to expert support, industry training, and business improvement consultation. These resources help to provide additional frameworks to develop active awareness of health and safety in the workplace.

“I am thrilled that we have been awarded the seal of excellence for health and safety. It is testament to the hard work of our team to ensure that we adhere to strict safety practices and look after each other.” Neil Goldman, CEO at Colpac.

Colpac focuses on specific safety campaigns on a regular basis. The company culture actively encourages openness in reporting safety concerns, not only on the shop floor but all the way to board level, and provides regular training to ensure hazard awareness. Every team member plays a vital part in Colpac’s commitment to health and safety, for themselves and for their colleagues.
