i-fuelcards Ltd: All in the name

Written by Paula Devine | 03 Apr 2013

What does singer Adele have in common with Flitwick based fuel card business i-fuelcards Ltd? The answer is they’ve both trademarked their names. Nigel Webb, Business Development Manager at i-fuelcards Ltd, knew that in a competitive market it was essential to protect a brand that was establishing a great reputation.

Following a discussion with the Intellectual Property Office at a trade exhibition, Nigel decided to go through the process of trade marking the name and all associated web domains.

While a company can register a limited company name with Companies House, trade marking the name is a separate process.   If a business, or individual, wants to protect their identity or brand, then they can only do this by registering it as a trade mark with the Intellectual Property Office.

The Intellectual Property Office describes a brand as a “promise of an experience’’

“We wanted ‘ifuel’ to be recognised as a term associated with only our business, denoting a quality service that stands out from the crowd’ explains Nigel  ‘By trade marking our name, we can ensure that our brand is differentiated and can’t be appropriated’

i-fuelcards Ltd help businesses save money on fuel by offering free fuel cards that enable businesses to avoid high retail prices for their fuel.  Businesses can save up to 5p a litre, a real advantage in these days of rising fuel prices.

i-fuelcards Ltd’s Flitwick-based office, opened in 2011, employs a friendly, dedicated team of sales and account managers who are all committed to providing industry-leading customer services. The company offer a large range of UK and European fuel cards and provides access to discount services including VAT reclaim and toll payment services.

‘We believe we’re a stand-out business in our field and now we’ve trademarked our name, we have the reassurance that we can protect the reputation we’ve built.’

Details of their service can be found at www.i-fuelcards.co.uk or by calling 01525 300 040.
