Wyboston Lakes: New Facilities

Written by Paula Devine | 26 Apr 2013

Having recently completed a £3.5 million facility investment across its two specialist venues, Wyboston Lakes has announced a significant new space for training events, the Willows Conference Suite.

Located in the Wyboston Lakes Training Centre, the new suite provides 264 sq. m (2842 sq. ft.) of floor space with a capacity for 260 delegates seated theatre style. Features include high definition laptop input, wireless technology using Apple AirPlay and iPad-controlled sound and lighting.

“The Willows Conference Suite is a great space, incorporating the best technology in a stylish, seamless way that will inspire and impress,” said Mark Jones, Managing Director of Wyboston Lakes.

The Willows Suite is the second major enhancement of facilities at the Training Centre - a versatile new space, the 985 sq. m (10,400 sq. ft.) Oakley Suite, was brought on stream last autumn.

The refurbishment of the Wyboston Lakes Training Centre has been designed to increase its market share within its target sector, creating increased demand for training facilities from organisations in key sectors such as retail and the public sector. The venue focuses on those companies which demand fully effective meeting and training facilities, with cost as their most significant consideration.

Together with its sister venue, Wyboston Lakes Executive Centre, the Training Centre offers event organisers an unmatched choice of conference and training options, providing - on a single, private, 350 acre site - a vast spectrum of space and support facilities to address events of most sizes, shapes and budgets.

Wyboston Lakes Executive Centre is even more highly specified and is ideal for leadership development and as a venue where business strategy and tactics can be developed and challenged. It has also undergone a far-reaching transformation. It offers a versatile range of 25 conference and syndicate rooms – the largest room has a maximum capacity for 270 delegates seated theatre style - and 120 executive bedrooms.

The key changes include the development of a state-of-the-art technology framework, capitalising on Wyboston Lakes’ sector-leading 200 mbps broadband service. Investment has been made in AV equipment that is at the forefront of HDMI technology; central control for monitoring and adjustment; advanced techniques for troubleshooting connectivity problems remotely; and facilities for effective and totally reliable multi-broadcasting. It is a combination that opens up new horizons for organisers in their quest to achieve new levels of effectiveness, impact and involvement. This new technology led the venue to win the HBAA Best Use of Technology Award 2012.

The public areas of the Executive Centre, including the lounge and bar areas, have all been given new soft furnishings and carpets. There is a new breakout area with a purpose-built display for serving freshly baked snacks and break time refreshments. There is also a separate dedicated lounge for trainers and conference leaders with drinks, TV, computers and sofas. The venue is now even better placed to address in particular the demand for facilities from organisations in key sectors such as pharmaceuticals, financial services, accountancy, the petro chemical industry and education, as well as weekend association events.

The improved broadband facility, which doubled in strength to 200 mbps last summer, has brought a completely reliable Wi-Fi service in all working, residential and rest areas, which is free to all conference clients and delegates. The system also opens up new horizons for internet based events. It is a benefit that is already producing some dramatic results for clients: for example, a leading technology company recently had more than 800 concurrent devices connected to the internet; and a leading image equipment manufacturer required 230 connections between the venue’s lounge and its training rooms.

By creating even more effective facilities, the recent investment has enhanced another significant opportunity.
