Vauxhall Accelerates Success for Central Bedfordshire College Students

Written by Bedfordshire Chamber of Commerce | 15 May 2019

Central Bedfordshire College are delighted to be welcoming a new addition to their dedicated vehicle maintenance training centre on Luton Road – a Vivaro van, generously donated by Vauxhall.

Learning Area Manager Karyn Godfrey commented, “We are thrilled with this incredibly kind donation from Vauxhall. This will support our students with their learning, and support us to train industry-ready young people in our state-of-the-art workshop.”

The vehicle maintenance department at Central Bedfordshire College provides a high standard of practical, hands-on training from Entry Level to Level 3, giving students the skills and experience they need to thrive in the workplace. Learning in a fully-equipped garage on Luton Road from a team of highly experienced tutors, students have the opportunity to work on a variety of vehicles to prepare them for the realities of the industry, now including Vauxhall’s Vivaro van.

Cherie Denton, Community Relations Coordinator at Vauxhall, is confident of the positive impact the donation will have on the students’ learning. “Vauxhall tries to support education where we can. The vehicle that was supplied by Vauxhall is one of our early production vehicles; a diesel Vauxhall Vivaro Panel van of which we have sold thousands. It was built here in Luton and has won many awards, including Van of the Year... We have a scheme called ‘Donation for Education’… I thought that the College could benefit greatly from this donation. As it is a new vehicle, it means that Level 3 students are able to gain qualifications after working on this standard of vehicle.”

The students are eager to begin working on the new van as they move into the summer term.
