Leadership & Management

Written by Paula Devine | 11 Sep 2013

The University of Bedfordshire’s Knowledge Hub has teamed up with Central Bedfordshire Council and Bedford Borough Council to rollout an innovative leadership and management training programme.

The Skills for Growth* programme is supported by the European Social Fund and offers training in business management and leadership skills, together with an opportunity to achieve the Chartered Management Institute’s Level 5 Award in Leadership and Management.

Daniel Nicholls, Project Manager of Skills for Growth at the University said: “We’ve designed this course with small business owners in mind."

“This programme, delivered by experienced entrepreneurs who understand the challenges small businesses in Bedfordshire face, will provide delegates with the opportunity not only to gain the Level 5 Award in Leadership and Management, but also learn how to utilise project management tools, make effective use of financial controls and apply business-wide innovation to help grow their business.”

A business leader who attended the launch course earlier this year is already reaping the benefits.

Sharon Crosby, of Blue Direct Ltd in Dunstable, attended the first Skills for Growth programme. She said: “After some 30 years away from the classroom it was a wonderful experience to be a student again and to apply the skills and techniques learnt during the programme back into my business.”

The next course starts on Tuesday, 15 October at the University's Bedford campus. It comprises of five weekly evening sessions, concluded with an assessment in the form of a management presentation.
