Community spirit carries the torch for local charities

Written by Paula Devine | 20 Nov 2012

The Basepoint Innovation and Business Centre in Luton has donated £1,744 to its chosen charity, ReachOut Plus, and also £346 to St. Vincent de Paul, an international Christian voluntary organisation that tackles poverty.

The money was raised for ReachOut Plus from raffles held at the centre, with prizes such as chocolate, wine and toiletries on offer for the lucky winners, and also from photographs taken with Milton Keynes’ Olympic Torchbearer and St. Vincent de Paul volunteer, Ian Cousins, who was nominated to carry the torch by a local friend for his tireless charity work in the local community.

Fiona McDermott, Centre Manager at Basepoint Innovation and Business Centre Luton, comments: “Like everyone in the country, we got caught up in Olympic fever and saw lots of opportunities to fundraise money for worthwhile causes. Our Olympic Torchbearer, Ian, does amazing work with local charities, and was kind enough to support us in our fundraising efforts for ReachOut Plus, and also support his own charity, St. Vincent de Paul. We hope the money is useful to both charities, and supports them in the important work they do.”

ReachOut Plus is a charity which creates life changing experiences for young people, the disadvantaged and the disabled, and helps them reach their full potential in safe and inspirational environments. The charity aims to deliver personal development, hands-on experience, team building as well as other vital experiences and works with around 4,000 people every year.

Housed within a stunning contemporary building, the Basepoint Innovation and Business Centre offers a great range of facilities including free parking, incubator units, high speed internet access, breakout area and onsite cafe. Located at Butterfield Technology Park, to the north east of Luton town centre, the centre is easily accessible from the A1 to the east, the M1 to the west, Luton Airport and mainline stations to central London.
