Climate Week 4th-10th March

Written by Paula Devine | 16 Jan 2013

Climate Week is a supercharged national campaign to inspire a new wave of action on climate change. It culminates with thousands of events and activities taking place throughout the week of 4 to 10 March 2013, planned by organisations from every part of society. Showcasing real, practical ways to combat climate change, the campaign aims to renew our ambition to create a more sustainable, low-carbon future.

Climate Week is backed by every part of society - from the Prime Minister to Paul McCartney, the NHS to the Met Office, the TUC to the CBI, Girlguiding UK to the National Association of Head Teachers.

Organisations and individuals can get involved right now by starting to plan an event for Climate Week. This provides a unique opportunity to profile their own initiatives and innovations to stakeholders and staff, customers and the community, members and the media. To date over 1000 events have already been organised from all sectors of society with more being registered every day via the Climate Week website. You can also see events being registered from other organisations your sector and spread the word in advance, so that others find out about Climate Week in time to plan their own activities.

Amongst the many ways to get involved the Climate Week Pub Quiz will also be run in pubs and workplaces up and down the country. This takes a light-hearted look at issues of climate change and sustainability and will be available for download prior to the Week itself.

The Climate Week Swap is a new element to the campaign for 2013, highlighting the positive impact that swapping clothes, books, toys, DVDs and other items can have on our environment. Run a swap event in your workplace and save resources from going to landfill. All those who register a Swap event will be entered into a draw to win a swap with a celebrity.

In addition Climate Week has partnered with Defra and the Environment Agency’s Climate Ready Programme to deliver a ‘Be Climate Ready’ climate adaptation guide for small and medium-sized businesses. This straightforward and practical guide contains 7 easy steps that businesses can take to better insulate themselves from the effects of climate change, for example the recent flooding that has affected much of the UK. Download this resource here and get Climate Ready!
