Committees
Debate, discussion and decision led by representatives of the business community in Bedfordshire and Luton.
Luton and South Bedfordshire Committee
The Luton and South Bedfordshire Committee of the Chamber is made up of businesses from Luton and South Bedfordshire. The group discusses issues of importance to business in their local area, which is entering an exciting phase; a number of major developments are planned and London Luton Airport is set to increase its capacity. The committee wants to ensure that at every point in the decision making process the business voice is heard. Recent discussions have included the redevelopment of the Vauxhall Motors site, getting ready for the 2012 Olympics and the practicalities of delivering the major growth planned for the area.
Bedford Area Group
The Bedford Area Group (BAG) is made up of businesses from Bedford, North Bedfordshire and Mid Bedfordshire. The area is set to make Bedfordshire a 'destination' county with the announcement that both Center Parcs and the National Institute for Aquatic Research are to locate in Mid Bedfordshire. BAG want to make sure that the business voice is heard as the plans develop and also that the area is able to offer the skills and facilities needed to capitalise on forthcoming opportunities. Recent discussions have included the potential benefits of the 2012 Olympic Games for Bedford, how local businesses can benefit from tourism opportunities and the debate over unitary authorities.

Policy Council
The Policy Council is the Chamber's forum for discussing the wider strategic issues affecting businesses in Bedfordshire and Luton. Made up of business leaders from the area, the group meets on an ad hoc basis to discuss issues as diverse as developing an economic development vision for Bedfordshire and Luton, the potential for expanding the Business Improvement District model and the European Constitution. Importantly, the Policy Council is a member of the British Chambers of Commerce National Policy Council and members also sit on the Regional Policy Council. This enables the group to influence policy positions formulated at a national and regional level.
