Apprenticeships - Are you an employer?
Training young people in the skills for tomorrow
Apprenticeships are career and training opportunities that allow young people to gain nationally recognised qualifications whilst they work. The Learning and Skills Council provide FUNDED training for apprenticeships, helping them achieve NVQs, Key Skills and Technical Certificates whilst gaining hands-on work experience.
One of the major concerns of businesses today is the lack of skilled individuals within the workplace. Finding competent and committed employees who have the ability to do their job efficiently is becoming increasingly difficult.
Apprenticeships can make your organisation more effective, productive and competitive by addressing your skills gaps directly. Designed to help young employees reach a high level of competency and performance, they provide on the job training leading to respected National Vocational Qualifications. Your apprentice develops a range of practical skills and experiences that are not only specific to your industry but also directly relevant to your business.
Apprenticeships are designed to focus on the whole job, not just individual skills, helping you develop the kind of people your business needs for the future.
How does it work?
Apprentices learn on the job alongside your other employees and develop additional skills and knowledge through onsite visits from our professional advisors. They are supported and mentored by our experienced qualified external assessors who ensure standards are met and quality training is delivered. There are two levels of apprenticeships that allow a young person to study at a level suitable to their experiences and abilities.
What is your involvement as an employer?
Contact us and an advisor will help you identify a suitable apprenticeship from the schemes available, even if do not have an individual the Chamber can help you recruit a suitable young person who is keen to be an apprentice.
Once your apprentice is onboard you simply need to agree a training plan with our assessor and provide learning opportunities within your organisation. We help you throughout the scheme by offering additional development in the form of workshops that enhance and expand your trainee's skills.
